B-17G Bam Bam #42-37893 (358BS) VK-O
10 June 1944 - Mission #177 to Nantes, France: Bam Bam crashed shortly after take-off, just after joining the formation. When last seen, her left wing dipped down and the B-17 went into a dive. Pilot 1Lt Sam Oliver brought it out of the dive and climbed to the level of the formation. Bam Bam went into a second dive and in to a spin. An explosion followed, apparently from the bombs, and the tail was blown off. The B-17 crashed one quarter of a mile southwest of Great Gidding, Huntingdonshire, England. Four crewmen managed to bail out and the other six died in the crash.
