King Walter Cronkite, United Press Correspondent, flew in this B-17 on 26 February 1943 on a mission to the Submarine Yards at Wilhelmshaven, Germany. The B-17 was attacked by German FW-190 and ME-109 fighters and intense anti-aircraft fire was encountered. His pilot was Major Glenn E. Hagenbuch, Command Officer of the 427th Bomb Squadron.
