FOOTNOTES
*** Birdsong and several other pilots flew Delta Rebel 2's first 25 missions. Hell's Angles was long thought to be the first 8th AF B-17 to fly 25 combat missions. New research by Mick Hanou (91stBGMA) and Jeff Duford (NMUSAF) proved Delta Rebel No.2 was acutally the first to complete 25 missions.
At this stage of the war, an ABORT counted as a mission. It usually meant that they got over occupied Europe, or were attacked or subject to flak. A “TURN BACK” did not count towards missions.
