Practice flight incident:
5 April 1944 in B-17 42-38168 Dear Mom (359BS) BN-M. 1Lt Leroy E. Daub and a six man crew were on a local practice bombing flight. A normal landing was made. After rolling down the runway for 500 yards, the landing gear wheels collapsed and the B-17 slid on its belly. 1Lt Noel N. Newell, a 359BS PIlot flying as CoPilot, had accidentally hit the landing gear retraction switch.
